Granite Falls is almost a perfect reverse of House Rock with the bend
coming on river right instead of left, rated an 8 with an 15 foot
drop. The approach is similar and the run is similar but with one
major difference. The location of the rocks at the mouth and
submerged along the right wall creates massively exploding waves that
appear at irregular and unpredicatable intervals off the wall.
We hit the rapid just fine when one of those rogue waves smashed into the
boat, tossing Mark into the river at the top of the rapid. He was ok
but it was one scary ride as he essentially ran the entire rapid in his
lifejacket. Bill almost joined him, but Brian's quick thinking and
highsiding on the right side stabilized the boat and we made it the rest
of the way ok.
